To celebrate the Year of the Snake, the Center for International Studies and Programs will host a Spring Festival Celebration from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, in Thompson Student Union Auditorium.

People sit around a table covered with crafting supplies at the 2024 Lunar New Year celebration.

Attendees of UToledo’s 2024 Lunar New Year celebration enjoy one of several hands-on activities.

The free, public event will feature more than 20 activities for the UToledo community to experience and learn about different cultures that celebrate the Lunar New Year, including lantern making, fortune telling, balloon art, paper-cutting, traditional clothing and more. Attendees also may enjoy a free lunch.

Student organizations including the Chinese Student and Scholar Association, Chinese American Student Association, Vietnamese Student Association and Japanese Student Association will be participating in the festival to showcase their traditional new year celebrations.

“We welcome the UToledo campus to join us for this fun annual event,” said Xinren Yu, director of the Center for International Studies and Programs. “This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about how people in Asian countries celebrate the New Year. There will be plenty of prizes for participants to win and a free hot lunch.”
