The University of Toledo Department of Theatre and Film will premiere “Elkshire,” a drama written and directed for the stage by theatre student Alec Simon.

Performances are scheduled Thursday through Sunday, Feb. 10-13, in the Center for Performing Arts Center Theatre. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday; Sunday’s show begins at 2 p.m.

A fantastical journey through a far-off land, “Elkshire” follows inventor Merrick as she tries to impress her town’s ruler while trying not to derail the flow of daily life for residents. But when a mysterious force works to upend everything, Merrick is thrust into action to save her friends, family and the town.

“It is an honor to be given this opportunity to present my work, but it wouldn’t have been possible without all the talented students and staff who helped create the show,” Simon said. “It also gives everyone a chance to show off what they’ve been working on during their time here at UToledo, and this has allowed them to now learn how the process of creating a new show works from the ground up — something that you often don’t get the chance to do while in college.”

Tickets are $10 for students; $12 for UToledo faculty, staff and alumni as well as military members and seniors; and $15 for the general public. Call 419.530.ARTS (2787) or visit the School of Visual and Performing Arts’ website. Tickets also will be available at the door.
