The 2022 Cosmetic Science and Formulation Design Virtual Summer Camp, a program in partnership with industry leaders designed for high school students who wish to learn how makeup and personal care products are made, is scheduled for Wednesday, June 22, through Friday, June 24.

Created and led by Dr. Gabriella Baki, director of the Cosmetic Science and Formulation Design Program and associate professor of pharmaceutics in the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the three-day camp will feature presentations from Bath and Body Works and Lab Muffin among several others.

Dr. Gabriella Baki, director of the Cosmetic Science and Formulation Design Program in the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, poses with some of her students involved in last year’s virtual camp.

“After a very successful first virtual cosmetic science summer camp in 2021, we are full steam ahead organizing the second annual virtual CoSci summer camp,” Baki said. “In 2021, we had 94 students from 73 different U.S. cities. We had an amazing panel of seven cosmetic companies, a three-member alumni panel and 19 donating companies. This year, we will have three days with more than a dozen presenting partners.”

Similar to 2021, students will engage in various interactive games and a virtual scavenger hunt and interact with a panel of alumni of the Cosmetic Science and Formulation Design Program who will share their academic and professional experiences.

Each participant will receive a camp box that will include supplies and samples used in interactive and hands-on sessions during the camp and a camp T-shirt. Games also will be incorporated throughout the duration of the camp for a chance to win more prizes.

The camp is reserved for students actively enrolled in high school who are going into their 10th-, 11th- or 12th-grade years in fall 2022 who live in the United States or Canada. International students may attend, but they will not receive a camp kit.

Camp registration is open until Friday, June 4. The camp registration fee is $150 per camper, with a limited amount of financial need scholarships available.
