“Dorothy MacKenzie Price was a great supporter of the UToledo Department of Music, and we’re excited to welcome such celebrated pianists as Marina Lomazov and Joseph Rackers in her honor,” said Dr. Jason Stumbo, an associate professor and chair of the Department of Music. “We’re also excited to celebrate and support the next generation of musicians in the Dorothy MacKenzie Price Young Pianist Competition, whose talented competitors have already impressed us in the preliminary round.”

The inaugural competition is intended to provide valuable performance opportunities and financial assistance to help further students’ musical education. The top performer will win a scholarship from the UToledo Department of Music, among other opportunities.

Six pianists between the ages of 12 and 17 will perform in the free, public final round of the competition at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Center for Performing Arts Recital Hall.

Lomazov and Rackers will serve as guest judges for the competition.

The award-winning duo performs nationally and internationally. Both Lomazov and Rackers also perform widely as individuals and teach at the prestigious Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester in New York.

The Dorothy MacKenzie Price Piano Series is supported by the Dorothy MacKenzie Price Fund and the Toledo Piano Teachers Association. Named in honor of a late supporter of music programs and students at UToledo, the annual series brings celebrated pianists to campus annually for master classes and public recitals.
