The performance is at 7 p.m. Thursday in University Hall’s Doermann Theatre.

“We are thrilled to welcome Lauren Bernofsky for our annual Spring Festival of New Music,” said Dr. Jason Stumbo, an associate professor and chair of the Department of Music. “Working with a living composer is an incredible learning experience for our students, and we are excited about the additional outreach opportunity that we can provide to our area high school music educators through an open rehearsal and master class.”

Bernofsky is a multifaceted composer of solo, chamber and choral music, as well as large-scale works for orchestra, film, musical, opera and ballet. Her extensive body of work is performed at festivals and concerts around the world, including at such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall in New York and Grieg Hall in Norway.

Ahead of the evening concert, she will lead an open rehearsal at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Doermann Theatre. Area high school music directors, many of whom have performed or are currently rehearsing her works with their choirs, bands or orchestras, and others are invited to attend and engage with the composer on her creative process and vision.

Bernofsky also will lead an open master class at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Center for Performing Arts Recital Hall.
