Graduate Research Award Recipients for 2022 Announced

Ten graduate students, as selected by the Graduate Council, recently received the Graduate Research Award for 2022 in conjunction with The University of Toledo College of Graduate Studies.

“This was another competitive year and we received a number of applications that made it very difficult to pick and choose,” said Ali Imami, president of the Graduate Students Association. “I would like to thank the members of the Graduate Council Student Affairs Committee and the College of Graduate Studies, who have worked tirelessly to systematically catalog, analyze, rate and rank these applications and then decided on the final recipients.”

The graduate students receiving financial support for costs associated with research projects are:

•  Fathima Dhilhani Mohammed Faleel — doctoral dissertation, molecular medicine in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences. Mentor: Dr. David Kennedy. Award amount: $2,000;

•  Iluja Gautam — doctoral dissertation, medical microbiology and immunology in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences. Mentor: Dr. Randall Worth. Award amount: $1,970.

•  Maureen Casaus — master’s thesis, geology in the College of Natural Science and Mathematics. Mentor: Dr. Timothy Fisher. Award amount: $2,000;

•  Micah Garcia — doctoral dissertation, exercise science in the College of Health and Human Services. Mentor: Dr. David Bazett-Jones. Award amount: $1,900;

•  Navdeep Kaur — doctoral dissertation, chemistry in the College of Natural Science and Mathematics. Mentor: Dr. Wei Li. Award amount: $2,000;

•  Nicholas Henkel — doctoral dissertation, biomedical sciences in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences. Mentor: Dr. Robert McCullumsmith. Award amount: $1,907;

•  Paige Madden — master’s thesis, biology in the College of Natural Science and Mathematics. Mentor: Dr. Jeanine Refsnider-Streby. Award amount: $1,985.

•  Silas Fischer — doctoral dissertation, ecology in the College of Natural Science and Mathematics. Mentor: Dr. Henry Streby. Award amount: $1,900;

•  Sukanya Chakravarty — doctoral dissertation, medical microbiology and immunology in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences. Mentor: Dr. Saurabh Chattopadhyay. Award amount: $2,185; and

•  Vickie Dugat — doctoral dissertation, health education in the College of Health and Human Services. Mentor: Dr. Joseph Dake. Award amount: $2,000.

The recipients and their mentors will be honored at the Tuesday, April 5, Graduate Council meeting.
