An event more than 200 years in the making is finally here.
Today, Toledo will experience complete darkness as the moon passes between the sun and the Earth. The eclipse is set to begin around 2 p.m. and to reach totality or complete darkness just before 3:15 p.m.
The last time northwest Ohio had this opportunity, Thomas Jefferson was serving his second term as U.S. president.
UToledo is celebrating this once-in-a-lifetime occasion for the campus community and visitors near and far.
Between noon and 4:30 p.m., UToledo will provide educational activities, inflatables, games, music and food trucks in Centennial Mall, and Glass Bowl Stadium will be open for visitors and guests to observe the eclipse. Eclipse-viewing glasses will be available in both locations while supplies last.
It will take about an hour for the moon to move completely in front of the sun, with totality expected to occur at 3:12 p.m., lasting for 1 and a half minutes.
On-campus parking is complimentary on a first-come, first-served basis. Permits will not be enforced today, Monday, April 8. Disability, metered and reserved spaces will still be enforced. ADA parking is available in Area 18 (Main Campus Map PDF).
