Dr. Kasey Tucker-Gail, a professor of criminal justice, has been selected as the program director of The University of Toledo’s Jesup Scott Honors College.
Tucker-Gail, who joined the UToledo College of Health and Human Services faculty in 2004, will be responsible for providing innovative, collaborative and visionary academic leadership, evaluation, assessment and curricular oversight of the multidisciplinary Honors College.
Dr. Kasey Tucker-Gail, a professor of criminal justice in UToledo’s College of Health and Human Services, will lead the Honors Program.
Her appointment was effective May 13. She will remain a faculty member.
“It will be a privilege to work with the honors staff, faculty, administration, alumni and community to reimagine the overall honors experience for these valued students,” Tucker-Gail said. “The focus will be to evaluate the honors curriculum and explore ways to make the Honors Program more accessible, identifiable and inclusive.”
“Dr. Tucker-Gail has experience at the department, college and University levels, which provides her with the required skills to conduct the important interdisciplinary work of this position,” said Mary Humphrys, acting vice provost of academic affairs. “Her primary focus will be to work with the deans, faculty and the provost’s office to evaluate and modify the Honors Program curriculum. Honor students are a very important part of the UToledo community, and we want to continue to provide them with an excellent experience.”
In addition to her faculty responsibilities, Tucker-Gail served as the director of the Center for Student Advocacy and Wellness from 2016 to 2021 and director of the Center for Urban Policing and Crime Analysis Initiative from 2016 to 2019. Tucker-Gail also has led more than 10 external grant-funded projects as a principal investigator inclusive of two sponsored by the Department of Justice. She also served as an honors director for the College of Health and Human Services for several years.
Earlier this year Tucker-Gail was one of four UToledo faculty members to complete the Mid-American Conference Academic Leadership Development Program that helps identify, develop, prepare and advance faculty as academic leaders across MAC member institutions. The initiative features two key components: involvement in a leadership development program at the fellow’s home institution and participation in monthly developmental meetings with all MAC Fellows.
Tucker-Gail earned her Ph.D. in sociology from Western Michigan University with an emphasis on criminology, and also has a related concentration in public administration, focusing on policy analysis and program evaluation.
Her master’s degree in criminal justice administration is from Ferris State University, her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and criminalistics is from Lake Superior State, and she has a diploma from Canadore College in NorthBay, Ontario, in law and security administration.
