The Summer Rocket Employer Retreat is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, July 22, as a virtual event on Microsoft Teams.

UToledo Career Services, Shah Center for Engineering Career Development and Business Career Programs have collaborated to bring employers together to network, discuss trends and stay engaged with The University of Toledo at the third-annual Summer Rocket Employer Retreat.

The career offices are expecting more than 100 employers from diverse industries and close to 150 guests to attend Thursday’s Summer Rocket Employer Retreat, a 60% increase from the 2020 event.

“Career offices and employers are still in a state of transition based on how the world of work has changed due to factors related to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Shelly Drouillard, director of Career Services. “We were pleased to see the increase in employers participating this year and believe it demonstrates the value of collaborations between the University and regional employers.”

John C. Jones, president of HOPE Toledo, will provide the keynote address at the Summer Rocket Employer Retreat.

Jones will be focusing his remarks on diversity, equity and inclusive hiring practices in 2021. Following the keynote, employers will have the opportunity to attend breakout sessions to delve deeper into the topics of coaching students, hiring strategies and continuing the conversation around diversity, equity, and inclusivity when recruiting UToledo Rockets.
