Dr. Celia Williamson, Distinguished University Professor of social work and director of the UToledo Human Trafficking and Social Justice Institute, was selected to become a member of the G100, a global group of 100 women at the top of their respective industries, leading efforts to address world challenges.

Williamson will serve as global chair for finding solutions to the issue of human trafficking.

“I am honored to be recognized for my anti-human trafficking work and look forward to guiding powerful advocacy, awareness and impact across governments and organizations for a gender-equal future,” Williamson said. “Representing areas such as climate action, economic empowerment and STEM education, we have the opportunity to speak to world leaders, heads of state, the United Nations, the European Union and various governments.”

The G100’s mission is to provide thought leadership on what needs to be done for inclusivity, safety, economic and social empowerment of millions of women around the world, addressing gender gaps and achieving gender parity within the decade.

“This is a well-deserved honor for the world’s leader in fighting the devastating evil of child and sex trafficking,” said Dr. Mark Merrick, dean of the College of Health and Human Services.

Williamson is a world-renown social worker and researcher who for the past three decades has worked directly with survivors and revolutionized global anti-trafficking efforts.

She leads the oldest and largest academic conference about human trafficking at UToledo that has welcomed people from 50 states and 47 countries since it began in 2004 to advance collaborative research, advocacy and program development.

The 19th Annual International Human Trafficking and Social Justice Conference is Sept. 21-23 and will feature celebrity speakers, survivors, researchers, advocates and direct service professionals around the world, with more than 110 live and on-demand webinar sessions.
