The University of Toledo once again finds a place among the Best National Universities and Top Public Schools in the country according to the latest rankings from U.S. News and World Report, which also touted the University as a Top Performer on Social Mobility.
UToledo was named to a newly reconfigured list of the 422 Best National Universities selected from more than 2,700 universities in the United States, and the University also ranked among the Best Public Universities.
The latest rankings affirm UToledo’s standing as one of the best colleges in the country and highlight rising student success metrics.
UToledo’s rankings in 2027 academic peer program assessments saw undergraduate business, computer science, engineering, psychology and nursing all receiving recognition with computer science moving up to rank ahead of 60% of other universities.
Notably, U.S. News also named UToledo a Top Performer on Social Mobility, which applauds colleges that “are more successful than others at advancing social mobility by enrolling and graduating large proportions of disadvantaged students awarded with Pell Grants,” which are based on lower household incomes.
“At UToledo, students get the best of two worlds: the resources, experiential learning and research opportunities of a major, R1 university, paired with the kind of personal attention and support that helps them thrive,” UToledo President James Holloway said. “That combination is what we call the UToledo Advantage, and this year’s U.S. News Best Colleges ranking is one more proof point that students who choose UToledo are set up for success.”
Supporting Student Outcomes
U.S. News ranks colleges on a number of metrics including graduation and retention rates, peer assessment, faculty resources and research and graduate earnings.
UToledo student success metrics that showed improvement in the US News analysis for 2027 included graduation rates (both overall and for Pell-eligible students), first-year retention rate and earnings five years post-graduation when compared to high school graduates. That earnings rank places UToledo ahead of 70% of other schools.
While not a part of the latest U.S. News analysis, UToledo’s latest graduation rate and persistence from the freshman to junior year are the highest on record — accomplishments that should be reflected in future rankings.
Global Research Prominence
The national university rankings come on the heels of UToledo’s ranking in U.S. News and World Report’s 2026 Best Global Universities list, which focuses on global and regional research reputation and academic research performance.
Even in comparison with peers around the world, UToledo stands out as one of 275 U.S. institutions to make the US News Best Global Universities list again this year with top program rankings in materials science, psychiatry/psychology, chemistry and clinical medicine and a regional research reputation ranking higher than 89% of institutions in the world.
