To ramp up the spirit and excitement for the Homecoming parade and game on Saturday, Oct. 1, the student Homecoming Committee has a week of campus activities planned including a bonfire, pep rally, food trucks and petting zoo.
• The festivities start tonight at 8 p.m. with a bonfire in the Flatlands, including s’mores, lawn games and music, in the Flatlands near the tennis courts on Main Campus.
Other events include:
• Eat the Streets, 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, in Centennial Mall. The lunchtime event will feature a variety of food trucks as well as a pep rally, tie-dyed T-shirts and music.
• CAP Petting Zoo, 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Memorial Field House lawn. Hosted by Campus Activities and Programming, the petting zoo will include goats, sheep, llamas, chickens and more.
• Movie Night, 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at the University Hall lawn. ring blankets and settle in to watch a double-feature; the first movie will be a family-friendly choice and the second movie will be an action-packed film.
• Women’s Volleyball Game, 6 p.m. at Savage Arena. Join UToledo Athletics and the Homecoming Committee for pizza and decorating signs to get ready for Homecoming.
Also scheduled Friday evening, beginning at 5:30 p.m., is the Homecoming Gala at Thompson Student Union Auditorium. The Alumni Association will present this year’s Gold T, Daniel Saevig Blue T and Edward H. Schmidt Young Alum Awards, and distinguished alumni from each college also will be recognized. And on Saturday, the Homecoming festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with the Edward C. and Helen G. Schmakel Homecoming Parade, sponsored by Blue Key National Honor Society. The route will begin at West Bancroft Street and Campus Road and go east to Cheltenham Road to Christie Street to Middlesex Drive and back to West Bancroft Street.
From noon to 3:30 p.m. is the Pregame Party at the William and Carol Koester Alumni Pavilion. Stop by for a free hot dog, chips and non-alcoholic beverages. There will be a cash bar for those 21 and older with proper ID.
And the main event — the Toledo Rockets vs. Central Michigan University Chippewas football game — kicks off at 3:30 p.m. in the Glass Bowl. Attendance is free for students. Faculty, alumni and other fans can purchase tickets through the Athletics website. Homecoming Parade float winners will be announced at the game, and there will be an iconic halftime performance from the Rocket Marching Band.
