Celia Bauman stepped outside of her comfort zone and moved from her hometown of Dexter, Michigan to attend The University of Toledo, a decision she hasn’t regretted.
Bauman began her academic journey at Lansing Community College in Lansing, Michigan before transferring to UToledo, where she will graduate with a bachelor of science degree in paralegal studies this fall.
“When I was looking to transfer to The University of Toledo, I was comparing the different paralegal programs that Toledo had versus other schools. Toledo offered hands-on learning, a courtroom and offered a straight line to law school,” she said.
UToledo provided Bauman with many academic and professional experiences that set her up for success in her major, including interactive classes, on-campus employment and internship opportunities that move beyond the University.
“Toledo has gifted me with the ability to strive in school, student organizations and work opportunities,” Bauman said. “Academically, UToledo puts me ahead compared to other programs, and since the paralegal program is American Bar Association certified, it is considered one of the best programs in the country. I am also working at an on-campus job that offers me endless resume builders and opportunities to build my portfolio.”
Bauman has gained direct experience in her field with an internship where she has secured a full-time position upon graduation.
“UToledo gives you hands-on learning with an internship you’re placed in during your last semester, with the possibility of working full time after you graduate,” she said. “Luckily, the University prepared me by giving me endless job postings and setting up my internship where I now have a job lined up.”
As she prepares for graduation, Bauman encourages other students to consider beginning or continuing their academic journeys as a Rocket.
“It will be the best decision you could ever make” she said. “UToledo makes succeeding easy and has really helped me grow as a person.”
