Inaugural Mom’s Weekend Begins Oct. 27

Mom’s Weekend, the inaugural UToledo event to celebrate Rocket moms, is scheduled to kick off a weekend of events from Friday, Oct. 27, through Sunday, Oct. 29.

Activities begin Friday with registration from 5 to 7 p.m. in Thompson Student Union Ingman Room followed by a classic game of bingo with an array of prizes and a full ice cream sundae bar. Families can end their night in Glass Bowl Stadium with a special Halloween edition of Flicks on the Field, a double feature of “Hocus Pocus” and “Hocus Pocus 2.”

Prmotional graphic for Mom's Weekend, Friday, Oct. 27, to Sunday, Oct. 29.“The Division of Student Affairs has been working diligently to build up our efforts when it comes to engaging and communicating with the parents of our Rockets,” said Sammy Spann, vice president for student affairs and dean of students. “We are thrilled to welcome the mothers and motherly figures in our student’s lives to campus for a weekend full of celebration.

“This weekend will not only give us an opportunity to thank and celebrate all the mothers in attendance, but it will also give their student a chance to show their appreciation as well.”

Saturday’s activities include:

•  Mom’s Appreciation Brunch, from 10 a.m. to noon, Thompson Student Union Auditorium. Celebrate the incredible mothers and mother figures with a special brunch in their honor.

•  Parks Pumpkinfest, from 1 to 4 p.m., Parks Tower. Bring in the season of fall with pumpkin decorating, free food and fall crafts.

•  Paint a Pot, from 2 to 4 p.m., Thompson Student Union. Unleash your inner gardener with handcrafted terra cotta pots to design and personalize.

•  Yoga and Zumba, from 4 to 5 p.m., Thompson Student Union. Get your body moving with yoga and Zumba hosted by UToledo Recreation Center.

•  Paint and Sip Night, from 6 to 8 p.m., Thompson Student Union. Wind down the day with conversations and creativity. Enjoy the evening painting a memory to take home with you from the weekend.

On Sunday, families will have the opportunity to enjoy the day on their own before wrapping up the weekend.
