The University of Toledo is ranked among the top universities in the world by U.S. News & World Report in its Best Global Universities rankings.

In its newly released list that focuses on institutions that prioritize academic research, UToledo is one of only 280 U.S. schools ranked and achieved an international ranking of No. 1,002 out of more than 2,000 universities from more than 90 countries.

“At The University of Toledo our faculty are engaged in cutting-edge research and innovation and I’m proud that this prestigious ranking reflects their strong reputation for excellence and innovation on a global scale,” said UToledo President Gregory Postel.

Dr. Sridhar Viamajala, professor of chemical engineering, is developing new technology to transform agricultural waste into a valuable resource, reduce pollution and improve water quality. He is a member of UToledo’s Water Task Force of scientists, engineers, medical researchers and public health and legal experts collaborating to restore our greatest natural resource for future generations.

The ninth annual U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities rankings provide insight into how universities compare around the world. The 2022-23 edition evaluated 2,000 schools — up from more than 1,700 last year — on academic research and reputation. The rankings are based on 13 indicators, such as global and regional research reputation, international collaboration and total citations.

UToledo also received special recognition as among the best in the world in the subject areas of chemistry, clinical medicine, materials science and psychiatry/psychology.

The Best Global Universities ranking follows UToledo being recognized for the first time among the top universities in the country in the 2022-23 U.S. News and World Report Best Colleges rankings released in September.

UToledo is ranked in the third tier at 285 out of a total of 440 national universities included in the most recent survey. The University is ranked among the Top Public Schools listed at 146 out of 227 institutions.

“In the same year that UToledo is celebrating our sesquicentennial we are recognized among the best universities in both the country and the world. It’s a great way to honor our history and celebrate our strong momentum heading into the future,” Postel said.

Located along the Great Lakes, UToledo is a public, research university with an academic medical center powering opportunity for students and caring for patients across northwest Ohio. Known for ground-breaking research in astronomy and astrophysics; solar energy, water quality and sustainable technologies; and cell architecture and dynamics, UToledo is committed to its mission of improving the human condition around the world.
