Hollywood Screenwriter to Discuss His Work, Craft Nov. 17 at UToledo

The UToledo Department of Theatre and Film will host a special event with professional screenwriter, Michael Gilio, who cowrote the screenplay for the 2023 film, “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” Friday, Nov. 17.

The event, titled “Inside the Writing of ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,’ ” will include an interview and Q&A with Gilio, and runs from 6 to 7:15 p.m. in the UToledo Center for Performing Arts Recital Hall on Main Campus. Admission to the event is free. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. with first-come, first-served seating.

Michael Gilio, who cowrote the screenplay for the 2023 film, “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” will discuss his work and craft from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Friday in the UToledo Center for Performing Arts Recital Hall on Main Campus.

In addition to the talk and Q&A, Gilio will visit courses in the Department of Theatre and Film, including UToledo’s INSIDE/OUT course at Toledo Correctional Institute (a level four security state correctional facility), where he will speak about his work as a Hollywood screenwriter.

Gilio’s lecture and visit is part of UToledo Department of Theatre and Film’s ongoing effort to provide high-impact and practical experiences where Theatre and Film students learn from and alongside high-level professionals who generously share their firsthand experience.

Gilio was born in Illinois where he wrote and directed his first feature film, “Kwik Stop,” for which he won Best Director at the Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema. Gilio has worked as a screenwriter in studio projects with established directors, including Guillermo Del Toro and Doug Liman (“Justice League Dark”), Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (“Carter Beats the Devil”) and George Clooney and Grant Heslov (“The Yankee Commandante”).

In 2021, two projects written by Gilio were put into production by major production studios: “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” (Paramount Pictures) and “Dark Harvest” (MGM).
