The Jon Hendricks Memorial Jazz Scholarship Concert is organized annually in honor of Jon Hendricks, a local jazz legend and one of the originators of the jazz singing technique known as “vocalese.” It raises funds to establish a scholarship in his name to be awarded to students studying jazz at UToledo, where Hendricks was a faculty member in the UToledo Department of Music before he died in 2017.
