Inauguration of UToledo’s 19th President Slated for Oct. 16

The University of Toledo will celebrate the inauguration of Dr. James Holloway as the University’s 19th president with a public ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 16.

The ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. in Savage Arena, with a reception to follow.

Selected following an extensive national search, Holloway began his tenure as UToledo’s president July 15, 2025.

A nuclear engineer, Holloway’s career has been a mix of research, teaching, administration and global work, including in India, Ethiopia and Ghana. He joined UToledo from the University of New Mexico, where he had served as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs since July 2019.

The University is planning a series of events to take place connected to the inauguration, which is timed to take place near UToledo’s Founder’s Day on Oct. 12 that marks the date in 1872 when the Articles of Incorporation were drawn up for the Toledo University of Arts and Trades.
